Shuffling a playlist enables you to enjoy music in a different mood or experience, and is also a great way to explore new music. However, in the Spotify support community, questions like them may come up every now and then:
The problem in principle is still present but every once in a while shuffle mode does turn off. The UI is quite confusing in this area. At the top of my song list I see the 'shuffle' icon (two arrows crossing over each other), the label 'Shuffle all' is next to it along with a song counter. I believe this is a good opportunity to turn off shuffle and allow music to start playing in order. I also think that anytime Spotify is re-opened, or the current playlist is changed then shuffle should default to off, even if I previously pressed it on.
'How do I turn off Shuffle Play on my playlists? I want them to play in order. What do I do?'
'I'm running an Android phone with Spotify and the other day all my music playlists just started shuffling instead of playing in order as I have them on the desktop app. Please help.'
So, is Shuffle Play the only way to listen to music on Spotify?
No. If you're a Premium user, you can listen to anything you want. Select any track, playlist, or album, and Spotify will automatically play the songs in the order they're listed. Meanwhile, you still have the option to shuffle. Obviously, repeating a song or listening to a playlist in order is one of the features for premium users only.
If you don't have Premium and you're using the free service, you are 'forced' to listen to most of the playlists in shuffle mode. Or, you'll have to choose a playlist that doesn't have a shuffle icon next to it if you are trying to avoid the Shuffle Play.

Take Spotify Off Shuffle
Simpler and more universal Shuffle Play button
Our new green 'shuffle play' icon reduces streaming to the click of one familiar button, which includes the shuffle icon.
Easy to use Action Rows
All actions, including ‘like,' ‘play,' and ‘download' for Premium users are grouped in a row at the central part of the screen. Plus, downloading for listening without Wi-Fi (for our Premium users) now has a new icon—the same one we've been using for podcasts. Plus, the new row is your one-stop-shop for everything you'll ever want to do one-handed—the experience is much more adaptive and responds to the size of your device.
New Track rows with cover art
We're now showing a track's cover art in all views except 'Album' view. This will make it easier than ever to navigate the app and find familiar songs. Plus, we'll highlight songs you've already 'liked' by showing the heart icon next to the track name.
Starting February 27, iOS users of Spotify mobile can access and navigate music like never before. Now that you know what to look for, it's time to get streaming.
